You will burn in the storm

Tension has been mounting in White River. The imminent first anniversary of the death of a black motorcyclist shot by local police unsettles an economically depressed and racially polarized population, confronted by angry demonstrations and cases of arson and looting. But the situation becomes truly tense when more deaths occur in what appears to be a series of vendettas. However, when Gurney questions the true nature of all this bloodshed and focuses on the peculiar aspects of each of the homicides, the district attorney orders him removed from the investigation. Obsessed with evidence that does not corroborate the official version of events, Gurney decides to act on his own. "John Verdon's novels are intelligent, solid, compulsive, with brilliant twists, psychological depth, and characters that fill his pages with life."
