The Contract is the second installment in the acclaimed detective novel series starring Inspector Joona Linna.

A private boat appears in the Stockholm archipelago. Inside, the lifeless body of a woman is found. Her hair, her skin, her clothes are dry. And yet, the autopsy reveals that her lungs are full of water. The victim drowned.

The next day, another corpse appears in the city, and this one also holds a mystery. It is the director-general of Sweden's Strategic Products Inspection Agency, Carl Palmcrona, who is found hanged in his home, within whose walls a violin resonates, music that sinisterly watches over the deceased.

What connection could there be between two such disparate deaths? Detective Joona Linna will take the reins of two cases whose roots seem to intertwine deep within the earth.
