The thrilling narrative of the life of Richard the Lionheart and his rise to power, by one of the masters of the historical genre. REBEL. LEADER. BROTHER. KING. 1179. Henry II is King of England and his dominion extends to Wales, Ireland, Normandy, Brittany, and Aquitaine. The House of Plantagenet has seized power and rules its territory with an iron fist. However, within the family, the waters are never calm and rumors of rebellion are constant. Ferdia - an Irish nobleman who has been taken prisoner during the conquest of his country - saves the life of Richard, the King's son, and becomes his squire. Together they will cross the English Channel and fight to quell the rebellious uprisings in Aquitaine. It will be in these lands where Richard, already a respected warrior, will earn the nickname the Lionheart. But Henry, the eldest son, views his brother Richard's military success with growing suspicion. It will soon become clear that the fiercest enemies for the Lionheart are not on the battlefield, but among those closest to him. |
