Suddenly I hear the voice of the water
«I don't like talking about the past. My mother would often repeat it, almost in a whisper, but as soon as she said it, she would start doing it.» A brother and a sister return to their childhood home, to the place of happiness, desires, and forbidden secrets about to be revealed. There, luminous memories intertwine with those that burst forth, sweeping everything away: the delicate touch of linen mixes with the tumult fleeing a sarin gas attack, the painful silences of the family with the sound of mountain insects. With her characteristic, almost artisanal mastery, Hiromi Kawakami once again constructs a fragile and sensual world where flashes and shadows embrace in a unique way. Written after the tragedy of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan in 2011, this novel embodies, with all its contradictions, the desire to live after catastrophe. Critics have said... «Kawakami's style is of great narrative finesse, of a delicacy that borders on poetry, but which also encompasses darkness, pain, and heartbreak.» El Correo «A cult author. The Japanese writer is a queen in the difficult art of striking the reader without making a sound.» Eugenio Fuentes, La Opinión de A Coruña «One of the greatest Japanese writers.» Marie Claire «Kawakami's prose can well be defined as crystalline: it is constructed with the beautiful and reticular precision, perfectly connected, of a crystal.» Ciro García, El Norte de Castilla «Kawakami captivates with her words and her poetic style.» Jacinta Cremades, El Mundo «Kawakami knows how to approach the mysteries of desire with poetic sobriety [...]. A magnetic novel.» Lire De pronto oigo la voz del agua contemporary fiction, book, novel, literature, best, literary genre, literary novel, feelings, emotions, death books, death and grief, grief book, loss book, loss and grief, fiction, Japan, Tokyo, 21st century, contemporary age, history book, history of, for adults, in Spanish, in Castilian, 2021, Technical detailsAge Adults Date 44409 Measurements 15 X 23.5 Pages 192 Binding Hardcover About the authorHiromi Kawakami was born in Tokyo in 1958.
