Many years have passed since the Teblor warriors unleashed chaos and slaughter upon Silver Lake.

Now the northern tribes no longer raid the southern lands. The city has recovered, but the legacy endures. Indeed, Karsa Orlong, one of the three, is now revered as a god, albeit an indifferent one. In fact, adepts of various religions have emerged across the world of Malaz. There are the worshippers of Coltaine, the God of the Black Wings, and among the imperial soldiery, the cult of Iskar Jarak, the Guardian of the Dead, abounds.

In response to reports of growing unrest among the tribes beyond the border, a legion of Malazan infantry marches towards Silver Lake. They don't know what they will face, but, although the Malazan army has evolved, some things haven't changed: they are willing to face anything. Or die trying.

High in the mountains, a new warlord is in command of the Teblor. Marked by the exploits of Karsa Orlong, he intends to confront his god even if it means traversing the Malazan Empire leaving a trail of blood.

But further north a new threat looms, and now it seems the Teblor are running out of time. Another long-feared migration is about to begin. This time there are tens of thousands, and they are preparing to march south. In their path, only a company of Malazan marines.

It seems that in Silver Lake the past is going to repeat itself, and that is never good.
