It's autumn, and Ada, Teo, and Emma have returned to Irurita to celebrate their Amona's eightieth birthday. Together they visit the Elizondo market, where a chestnut seller tells stories to the children. To their surprise, one of those stories speaks of a world that can only be Gaua, and of a young witch who is forced to give her daughter to the forest to save her from the clutches of an evil king, whom the three cousins identify in unison with Gaueko.

Ada has no doubt: the young witch from the chestnut seller's story must be her mother. Is it possible that she is alive, hidden somewhere in Gaua? Could she find her? No matter how small the possibility, Ada needs to explore it. Which means crossing the portal and asking the goddess who knows everything: Mari.
