Toll the Hounds (Malazan Book of the Fallen 8)

Toll the Hounds is the eighth volume in the "Malazan Book of the Fallen" saga, the decology, originally published between 1999 and 2011, which has made Canadian writer Steven Erikson one of the greatest voices in contemporary epic fantasy.

In Darujhistan, the city of blue fire, it is said that love and death will arrive dancing. Summer is passing and the heat is stifling, but something more than the sun bothers the round, small man in the faded red waistcoat. Things are not going well. Ominous omens plague his nights and stalk the city streets like shadow demons. Assassins lurk in the alleys, but the tables have turned and the hunters are prey.

Hidden hands break the bonds of tyranny. While bards sing their tragic tales, somewhere far away the howling of hounds can be heard... And in the distant city of Black Coral, where the Son of Darkness rules, there is a thirst for revenge. It seems that love and death will arrive hand in hand... and dancing.
