Fin de guardia (Trilogía Bill Hodges 3)
End of Watch is the spectacular conclusion to the "Bill Hodges Trilogy" that began with Mr. Mercedes and continued with Finders Keepers. There are killers who use knives, Retired detective Hodges, who runs a private investigation agency with Holly, is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer: he has months to live. At that moment, Hodges investigates a series of recent suicides with one common thread: all the deceased were connected to Brady Hartsfield, the infamous Mercedes, who years ago planned to blow up a rock concert hall full of teenagers. Hodges and Holly left the killer in a vegetative state from which he has not recovered. However, the hospital doctor has been supplying Brady with experimental drugs that have led him to acquire new powers, including the ability to move small objects with his mind and to enter the bodies of certain people vulnerable to his control. From his bed, Brady has designed a Zappit video game application. As soon as he has the user under control, he uses the app to dominate their mind and drag them to suicide. His targets are the same teenagers who escaped death, but he really wants to draw Hodges into the game and get revenge. He doesn't know he's about to die. Reviews: «The Bill Hodges trilogy is a great narrative work that is among the best of contemporary fiction. (...) And End of Watch is a great ending to this great trilogy.» «The plot matters, but so do the fates of some good characters [...]. It distills wisdom about how easy it is to go from this side to the dark side. And meanwhile, the damn thing entertains us.» «A story that can be read individually and that lovers of literature will enjoy.» On the blogs... «Stephen King brings back some of his most emblematic characters and puts them back to work in a less dark but much more faithful story to his original style, with some supernatural elements and a threat looming over the entire population...» «High-tech intrigue, "old school," between a pair of men who deep down share many of the things that happen to them.» «Very dynamic, with a fast pace that will drag us along even if we resist. Of course, one of the books in which Stephen King has best captured the sense of urgency and tension.» «An adventure that comes to an interesting end, a crime novel that goes beyond the simple investigation of a murder since it mixes supernatural elements that manage to make your hair stand on end.» «Stephen King shines again and shows that sometimes terror is not in the situation, but in your way of facing it.» |
