The formula

The scientific principles that lead to success.

"The laws that govern success are what differentiate bestsellers from bargain bin books, millionaires from the ruined. They illustrate how flawed the rules of competitions are, since in many of them the winner is decided by chance. They show us that, frequently, "experts" —professionals who rate wine, classical music performances, or figure skaters, or other types of judges— are no more capable than any of us of determining the quality of things.

"These rules also explain why the person who stands out in staff meetings, but who is often not up-to-date or well-informed in other areas, ends up becoming our boss. They show why taking a risk with a competitor who has the upper hand can have a great impact, or why a single initial donation can catapult or destroy a fundraising campaign.

"And they can even teach us why a very bad song —let's pick the one that annoys us the most— surprisingly becomes a hit. The Laws of Success have governed our lives and our careers as immutably as gravity for centuries, but, until very recently, we didn't even know they existed."
Albert-László Barabási

Reviews:
"This is not just an important but an imperative project: it addresses the problem of randomness and success using the cutting-edge scientific arsenal at our disposal. Barabási is the most suitable person for this."
Nassim Nicholas Taleb, author of The Black Swan

"László Barabási is an extraordinary scientist who has achieved great success. And, for our benefit, he uses his talent to explain how to achieve it."
Nicholas Christakis, co-author of Connected

"The Formula is essential reading for all those who aspire to improve their results and make their mark on the world."
James A. Evans, Professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago

"It's a singular fact that reading a book about success is so addictive. You'll have to keep The Formula alongside Freakonomics or Outliers."
