The Big Short

The exceptional chronicle of the real estate crash that caused the biggest crisis in the last 80 years.

Discover the book that inspired the film that has already been nominated for five Oscars.

The Big Short is the exceptional chronicle of the real estate crash that caused the biggest crisis in the last eighty years. When the US economy collapsed in the autumn of 2008, dragging much of the developed world into a crisis from which we have not yet emerged, a group of people were not surprised at all. They were a few intelligent investors and analysts who had understood what was happening, but they said nothing, paralyzed by fear and potential gains.

The key question Michael Lewis poses is: who realized the risk of taking for granted that real estate prices would always rise? A complicated risk, moreover, by the creation of these strange and artificial assets from dubious mortgages. To answer this question, Lewis presents an incredible story through the characters who starred in it, full of indignation and dark irony.

Reviews:
«Probably the best book of financial journalism ever.»
Felix Salmon, Reuters

«The best storyteller of our generation.»
Malcolm Gladwell

«No one writes about money and finance with greater narrative agility than Michael Lewis. He manages to use the stories of his protagonists to explain the greed, stupidity and hypocrisy of a system with a notorious lack of serious oversight. With a style similar to Tom Wolfe, Lewis manages to colorfully introduce the reader to the Darwinian world of the bond market.»
Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times
