The great swindle
Justice is not always dispensed in the courtroom. Mark, Todd, and Zola decided to study law in Washington to change the world, to make it a better place. But now that they are in their third year, they realize they have been victims of fraud: they took out a hefty loan to study at what has turned out to be a second-rate school, focused on making money, and so mediocre that students rarely pass the final exam. Investigating, they discover that the school is part of a chain operated by a dubious fund that also runs a bank specializing in student loans. However, not all is lost. There might be a way to get rid of the debt, expose the bank, uncover the fraud, and profit at the same time. But for their plan to succeed, they will have to drop out of school without graduating, which would be crazy... Or maybe not. Reviews: «Narrated with great intelligence. Bravo to Grisham for shedding light on a real problem and shaping it into a rewarding and entertaining book.» «The plot holds up throughout the book with imagination and, as always with Grisham's books, the brilliant story highlights a real-life problem: students who incur lifelong debt to pay for their university studies and the scandal of certain schools and their broken promises.» «A strong thriller with a wicked touch. As always, Grisham is a real pleasure, never a chore.» «Grisham is very good when he lets his sardonic sense of humor come through when dealing with legal and economic ethical issues.» «Grisham is the giant of the thriller.» «Nobody does it better than Grisham.» «Grisham is the lion of the literary thriller.» |
