Agnes Martí is a young archaeologist who moves to London in search of an opportunity. Soon after arriving in the city, surprised by a sudden rain while walking through the Temple district, she takes refuge in a very special bookshop: Moonlight Books. Edward Livingstone is looking for an assistant and, in the time it takes Agnes to dry off and have a hot cup of tea, both understand that it is no coincidence that it is precisely she who has knocked on his door.

As the days go by, Agnes discovers the grumpy nature of her new boss, the eccentricities of his regular clientele, and the charm of this small bookshop. Until one day, one of the most precious books on Moonlight Books' shelves disappears and police inspector John Lockwood enters the scene to take charge of the investigation and revolutionize Agnes's quiet life.
