The Grandfather Who Came Back To Save the World

Another hilarious story by Jonas Jonasson, which, with a crazy humor, fully addresses the current political moment.

Since that not-so-distant day when Allan Karlsson jumped out the window of the nursing home and embarked on all kinds of adventures with the eagerness of a youngster, the world has undergone a radical transformation that has plunged it into bewilderment and uncertainty. Given this state of affairs, a restless spirit and an open mind, coupled with a tablet with unlimited internet access, drive the indefatigable grandfather to embark on a singular crusade to safeguard world peace.

It all begins on a beach in Bali, where Allan meets Julius to celebrate his one hundred and first birthday. His friend's idea of giving him a hot air balloon ride is brilliant, but once in the air, the situation gets complicated: the intrepid aeronauts lose control of the aircraft and fall into the sea. Lost in the immensity of the ocean, luck seems to smile on them when a freighter crosses their path and rescues them, except that it is, in reality, a North Korean vessel transporting four kilos of enriched uranium destined for Pyongyang, the impregnable stronghold of a Kim Jong-un engrossed in his nuclear development program. Thus, in the blink of an eye, Allan finds himself immersed in a mission of the utmost importance, a very delicate diplomatic task that will take him from North Korea to New York, then to Sweden and finally to Africa. But, given the numerous obstacles and the complexity of the operation, the super-grandfather has no choice but to confront Donald Trump and Angela Merkel to explain his original plans, without whose fulfillment humanity is heading towards a crisis of unforeseen consequences.

Publishers Weekly

«A stimulating and timely satire on the current state of the world and the dangers of power.»
