Tita's Diary

From Tita’s hands, sense of smell, tears, aromas, and heart, this diary unfolds, an intimate dialogue that follows in the footsteps of the De la Garza family, which began years ago in the successful novel Like Water for Chocolate.

Twenty-five years after the publication of Like Water for Chocolate and after captivating more than 7 million readers, Laura Esquivel returns with the realization of Tita’s dream: to share the most intimate corners of her heart with everyone.

In these pages, we delve into the intimate world of Tita de la Garza through her diary. From the unforgettable moment she discovers love until the day she must renounce it to care for her mother, in accordance with an ancient family tradition. This painful event, far from confining her to solitude and silence, will lead her to find her two avenues of expression: through writing, she dialogues with herself, and through cooking, she communicates with the world and others.

Tita’s diary is the space where the protagonist treasures her most intricate secrets, unmade recipes, memories that almost fade; it is the sacred place where all the ingredients of a great novel are mixed with the spiritual flashes characteristic of the author. This story manages to give us a secret that, in turn, will allow us to recover our own intimacy and, why not, our own secret kept at the bottom of a wilted flower or a letter that, after generations, awaits to surprise its assiduous reader.

This moving story will allow us to get to know closely the magical and intimate threads with which Like Water for Chocolate, the captivating story that has gone around the world, was woven at the time.
