Ashley Freeman, an art history student in Boston, has a one-night stand with a stranger named Michael O'Connell. At first, he seems like a persistent admirer, but little by little O'Connell, a clever hacker, begins to infiltrate not only Ashley's life, but also that of her father, a serious university professor, and her mother, a prestigious lawyer, revealing himself to be a psychopath obsessed with controlling the girl's life.
