The Mediocre Man

Published in 1913, "El Hombre Mediocre" (The Mediocre Man) was written by the Argentine sociologist of Italian origin José Ingenieros (1877-1925). The work, half philosophical essay, half sociological study, had a great influence on Argentine youth of the time, presenting the concept of the influence of three types of men: the inferior, the mediocre, and the superior, on the development of history and the society that surrounds them. "El Hombre Mediocre" and its ideas were pioneers of the reflection and new man movement, and over time they were reinterpreted by José Ortega y Gasset in his work "The Revolt of the Masses."
