At the Mountains of Madness
One of the most representative titles from the vast production of the so-called "Master of Cosmic Horror," the American Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890 – 1937). No one has blended horror and science fiction stories quite like him. Creator of his own mythology (the Cthulhu Mythos), developed in collaboration with other authors and still relevant, and an unparalleled deviser of pre-human civilizations. His work, with a materialistic basis, deviates from traditional themes (Satanism, ghosts), incorporating science fiction elements (alien races, time travel, existence of other dimensions). A disciple of Edgar Allan Poe, his most conspicuous successor would be Stephen King. With "At the Mountains of Madness," Lovecraft continues to expand the ramifications and fantastic beings of "cosmic horror," previously introduced with another of his works, "The Call of Cthulhu."
