Nora Grey, an diligent student seeking a university scholarship, lives with her widowed mother on a farm outside Portland, Maine.
When Patch becomes her new high school classmate, Nora feels both attracted and repulsed by this strange character who seems to have access to her thoughts.
Then she learns that Patch is a fallen angel who wants to become human. Nora is under his control, but there are also other forces at play and she suddenly finds herself experiencing inexplicable events and in the midst of a very dangerous situation.
