This work aims to delve into the rich sea of its history, from its roots to the present day, starting from its definition and its proposed aims. It presents its evolution from the few mythological or legendary accounts and its vicissitudes, through the various historical periods, its successes and failures in the different scenarios and countries where it operated, focusing especially on the events in Spain and Hispanic America, from the advent of the Second Republic, the Civil War and Francoism. It also addresses attractive topics such as Freemasonry and women, as well as the rich Monica symbolism and the importance of music in its rituals.
