One Thousand and One Nights
One of those works that one would necessarily have to carry in their essential baggage to a desert island, is a cardinal piece of literature of all times and countries. It is a collection of stories of oriental origin, whose first draft in Arabic was carried out in Abbasid Baghdad during the 8th and 9th centuries, full of vivacity, mischief, dazzling fantasy and wit, some of which date back to China, Indochina, Persia, India, Greece and Egypt. It was in the 5th century when it received a more finished first structure in Egypt, which the French orientalist and archaeologist Antoine Galland, made known to the West by translating it for the first time in 1704. Although with many historical anachronisms, the work is an inexhaustible vein of poetic, ethnographic and folkloric information. -- One of those works that one would necessarily have to carry in their essential baggage to a desert island, is a cardinal piece of literature of all times and countries.
