Scarlett O'Hara lives in Tara, a large plantation in the southern state of Georgia, and is in love with Ashley Wilkes, who will soon marry Melanie Hamilton. It is 1861, on the eve of the Civil War, and all the young Southerners are enthusiastic about going into combat, except for the attractive adventurer Rhett Butler.
Butler likes Scarlett, but she is still in love with Ashley, who has just announced his engagement to Melanie. Out of spite, Scarlett accepts the marriage proposal of Charles, Melanie's brother, whom she despises.
Years later, as a consequence of the end of the war, and now a widow, Scarlett must face new situations such as hunger, pain, and loss, and settle in Atlanta, where Melanie awaits news of Ashley and Butler reappears...
