In 1910, an unknown painter wandering the streets of Vienna decided to enter the Hofburg Palace, where one of the rooms housed the Habsburg treasure. He couldn't help it; for hours he remained silent, ecstatically observing one of the apparently insignificant objects on display there: the so-called Spear of Destiny, the weapon with which the centurion Longinus pierced Christ's side. It was said that whoever possessed it would have the power to create empires, but if they lost it, their end would be terrible. That young man swore that one day it would be his. And so it was. On April 11, 1938, Germany annexed Austria to the Third Reich, and that painter, now an adult, ordered the Habsburg treasure and, especially, the Spear of Destiny, to be taken to Nuremberg. That man's name was Adolf Hitler. -- In 1910, an unknown painter wandering the streets of Vienna decided to enter the Hofburg Palace, where one of the rooms housed the Habsburg treasure.
