A dispute between the two most powerful families in the galaxy creates problems, and the Jedi are sent to mediate for peace. Sylvestri Yarrow has a streak of bad luck that she can't see the end of. Since her mother died, she's done everything she can to keep the family business afloat, but it's not an easy task. Debts are piling up and attacks from the Nihil are becoming more frequent. Syl has decided to travel to the capital, Coruscant, to ask for help, but she gets sidetracked when she finds herself embroiled in a dispute between the two most powerful families in the galaxy for control of a sector of space on the frontier. The problems of the rich don't interest her in the least, but perhaps she can at least earn a good reward. Meanwhile, Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh has been summoned to Coruscant, unsure why or by whom. When she and her Padawan, Imri, arrive at the capital, they discover that Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus and his Padawan, Reath, were also summoned to mediate the dispute between the two families. But why is a piece of empty space so important? The answer will put Vernestra's abilities to the test, and Syl will confront her past and revelations hidden in the shadows.
