a man in love

From son to father. This is the author's journey in the second of the six parts that make up My Struggle, that immense autobiographical novel which critics have described as "a mad project that only true geniuses can achieve". Karl Ove leaves his wife and moves to Stockholm. There he becomes friends with Geir, another Norwegian, an intellectual and boxing fanatic. And he meets Linda again, a poet who had fascinated him at a writers' gathering, and who will be his second wife. His world changes as he writes and tells what it's like to fall in love again, the joys and hassles of fatherhood, the need to write, the everydayness of family life or the comical failure of his holidays, the humiliation of childbirth preparation classes, the quarrels with neighbours... Knausgård writes with a sharp truthfulness about the moments that make up a life, that of a man who longs with equal intensity for solitude and love.
