The epic and exciting story of a woman whose life spans the most relevant historical moments of the 20th century.

The epic and exciting story of a woman whose life spans the most relevant historical moments of the 20th century.

From 1920—with the so-called "Spanish flu"—to the 2020 pandemic, Violeta's life will be much more than the story of a century.

Violeta comes into the world on a stormy day in 1920, the first girl in a family of five boisterous siblings. Her life will be marked by extraordinary events, and the ripple effects of the Great War are still felt when the Spanish flu reaches her country.

In a letter to someone she loves, Violeta recalls heartbreaks and passionate romances, poverty and prosperity, terrible losses and immense joys. Her life will be shaped by some of the great historical events: the fight for women's rights, the rise and fall of tyrants, and ultimately, not one but two pandemics.

Isabel Allende gives us an epic, furiously inspiring, and deeply moving story.

Violeta comes into the world on a stormy day in 1920, the first girl in a family of five boisterous siblings. From the beginning, her life will be marked by extraordinary events, as the ripple effects of the Great War are still felt when the Spanish flu reaches the shores of her native South American country, almost at the exact moment of her birth.

Thanks to her father's foresight, the family will emerge unscathed from this crisis only to be confronted with a new one, when the Great Depression disrupts the elegant urban life Violeta has known until now. Her family will lose everything and be forced to retreat to a wild and remote region of the country. There Violeta will come of age and have her first suitor...

In a letter to someone she loves above all others, Violeta recalls devastating heartbreaks and passionate romances, moments of poverty and also prosperity, terrible losses and immense joys. Her life will be shaped by some of the great historical events: the fight for women's rights, the rise and fall of tyrants, and ultimately, not one, but two pandemics.

Seen through the eyes of a woman possessed of an unforgettable passion, determination, and sense of humor that sustain her throughout a turbulent life, Isabel Allende once again gives us an epic, furiously inspiring, and deeply moving story.
