Frida Kahlo is the most famous Latin American painter of the 20th century and a fundamental figure in Mexican art. She met Pablo Picasso and André Breton; she was a friend of the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and the poet Pablo Neruda. Her house received writers, artists, film directors, doctors, politicians, photographers. Diego Rivera, the most recognized artist of Mexican muralism and Frida's husband, described her thus: "Your genius is in the painting and in your image. Decidedly there is no living painter who can do what you do. You have surpassed all other painters."
