Macbeth

A novel by "the king of all thriller writers" (The Sunday Express), with 50 million readers and one of the books of the year according to The New York Times: "When Macbeth met Harry Hole" (El Mundo)

Selected for the British Book Awards in the 'Crime & Thriller' category

"Jo Nesbø is breathing down my neck like a rabid pit bull."
James Ellroy

An overly upright police chief; a magnate willing to do anything to eliminate him; a city of damp, dark alleys, besieged by criminal gangs and drug trafficking. This is the new setting in which Jo Nesbø reinvents Macbeth as the ambitious captain of the Royal Guard, Lady Macbeth as a persuasive and mature dominatrix, and the three witches as "cooks" of a dangerous drug. But the fragile balance on which the city rests is numbered: Hekate, the drug lord, believes the police have been an obstacle to his business for too long, and Macbeth, with a murky past of addictions and violence, is the perfect pawn to destroy them from within.

A story of unchecked ambition that comes to life in the hands of Nesbø, a writer capable of turning any story into an agonizing journey through the darkest facets of human nature. And at the center, a man who will cross the line, who will forget who he was, and who knows he won't get what he wants unless he kills for it.

Reviews:
"When Shakespeare's universe crosses paths with the violent criminal world of detective Harry Hole, there can only be one result: the bloody story of Macbeth, King of Scotland, which, in the hands of Jo Nesbø, has become a dark police thriller set in the seventies."
Justo Barranco, La Vanguardia

"Jo Nesbø successfully carries out the project of adapting the famous Shakespearean tragedy. [...] Nothing is the same and everything is the same: the essence of individual aspirations does not vary, only their execution."
Marta Marne, El Periódico de Catalunya

"We cannot know what Shakespeare thinks, but we can say that this prince of darkness is enjoyable."
Juan Carlos Galindo, El País

"Prepare for a aimless spiral through the darkest tunnels of human experience."
Goodreads

"The undisputed king of crime novels."
El Mundo

"Pure narrative skill."
Lorenzo Silva

"Nesbø successfully places Shakespeare's drama in the world of drugs and corruption of the late 20th century."
Will Shank, El Cultural

"A blood-soaked police drama set in a rainy northern city in the 70s."
The Daily Express

"To speak of Jo Nesbø is to refer to one of the best things that have happened to crime novels."
La Razón

"It reminds us that much of literature comes from previous literature and is inspired by it to reformulate, renew, reinvent or adapt it."
Luis Alonso Girgado, El Ideal Gallego

"My band is reading Nesbø, but I'm too scared to open his next novel."
Patti Smith

"My new favorite thriller writer."
Michael Connelly

"Norway could very well boast that Henrik Ibsen, Edvard Munch and the successful thriller writer Jo Nesbø are its favorite sons."
The New York Times
