The Martian

Brilliant novel, ingenious delirium, with a suspense mechanism that will surprise the reader again and again. An exceptional literary experience in zero gravity.

"The best science fiction novel in years."
Wall Street Journal

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first men to walk on the surface of Mars. Now he is sure that he will be the first man to die there. The crew of the ship he was traveling in is forced to evacuate the planet due to a dust storm, leaving Mark behind after assuming he was dead. But he is alive, and trapped millions of miles from any human being, with no possibility of sending signals to Earth.

Anyway, if he managed to establish connection, he would die long before rescue arrived. However, Mark does not give up; armed with his wit, his skills, and his knowledge of botany, he will face seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Luckily, his sense of humor will turn out to be his greatest source of strength.

Obstinate in staying alive, he will hatch an absolutely insane plan to contact NASA.

Reviews:
"One of the best novels I've read in a long time. It feels so real it could almost be non-fiction, yet it has the narrative unity and power of a rocket. An Apollo 13 multiplied by a hundred."
Douglas Preston, #1 of The New York Times

"I couldn't put it down! It has the rare combination of being a good and original story with interesting characters and fascinating technical precision. A sum of MacGyver and Verne's Mysterious Island."
Chris Hadfield, astronaut, commander of the International Space Station, and author of An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth

"The best book I've read in a long time. Intelligent, funny, and intense."
Hugh Howey, author of Wool

"Weir has created a relentless, entertaining, and creative survival thriller, a MacGyver trapped on Mars that reads, feels, and is lived as real and terrible as the true story of Apollo 13."
Ernest Cline, author of Ready Player One

"The Martian emerges as the new Robinson Crusoe by Defoe, but written by someone even more brilliant."
Larry Niven, winner of several Hugo and Nebula awards

"Strong and brave. A 21st-century Robinson Crusoe on Mars."
Steve Berry

"Sharp, funny, and exciting."
Kirkus

"Brilliant. A tribute to human ingenuity."
Wall Street Journal

"A read that science fiction devotees will devour like candy."
USA Today
