The Messenger of Impossible Dreams

Nieves García Bautista, author of El amor huele a café, returns to the novel with this delicate and sublime story set between France and Spain, in which love, friendship, secrets, and dreams intertwine in a perfectly traced plot, with sublime writing and meticulously crafted details.

Who doesn't have a dream? We all harbor the hope that something great will come into our lives. What do you dream of?

Marie works as a messenger in the center of Madrid, and with each package she delivers, she imagines herself as the emissary of secrets and dreams: perhaps messages of love, special gifts, a letter of reconciliation...

Marie has had to leave her hometown in France, leaving behind her family, Lana, and Oliver, but memories accompany her on her journey to Madrid, where she arrives with a purpose that seems impossible. Thanks to her job, she will meet several people who, despite themselves, will end up making a place for themselves in her life. All of them have a dream, and Marie will do everything possible to help them.

Her desire to make people happy allows her to continue in a city hundreds of kilometers from her own and not perish among the nightmares that keep her awake at night and the absences she still cannot renounce. However, everything begins when, one night, Marie photographs an seemingly inconsequential scene. This small detail will turn her whole life upside down.

«On the camera screen, Marie reviews the images she has just captured. Contrary to her usual habit, the young woman has photographed an intimate encounter that does not shock her, but does overwhelm her with its extreme ugliness.

»As she gets into bed, she reflects on the embezzlement of love and passion thrown away, but that matters little to us now. What Marie does not imagine is that this moment, which she considers so inconsequential, will change the lives of several people, and even her own, in a radical and definitive way.

»It is the beginning of the end.»
