Exemplary Suicides gathers a series of stories around a single theme, with a wide range of possibilities: jumping into the void, blowing one's brains out, taking poison, disemboweling oneself, turning on the gas and putting one's head in the oven, throwing oneself under the wheels of a car, letting oneself be consumed by melancholy, becoming a ghost and, even, being struck down by lightning. However, the protagonists of these stories only flirt with suicide, perhaps they even meticulously plan it, but they never carry it out.
